SGC personnel and explosives training
So I have this wonderful bunny for my LJ jd_ficathon entry but I ran into a snafu. Or maybe not so much as a snafu as an "I might need to fix this" sort of thing.
Anywho, my question is: how much explosives (ie C-4, claymores, et cetera) training do new, very green SGC personnel (think the kids in "Proving Ground") have? I have no idea how much experience they would have with explosives at the Academy, AFROTC training, or in standard enlisted basic training.
The scenario I'd like to present in the fic is one of Jack actually running a basic explosives training class for any new military or civilians that will will be going off world. But if the actual military newbies would have already had some sort of formal training I'll need to rework the idea as not to step on that.
Thanks for the help :)

Demolitions training [use of high explosive] is a Mission Operational Specialty for "boots on the ground" forces. Straight-up Academy graduates would not have this training [I'm going to double-check this, but AFAIK they don't even teach cadets to fly at the Academy, much less blow things up.]
As I recall, Claymores are supposed to be easy to deploy ["This Side Facing Enemy"], but it would require additional training [such as Major Kawalsky and apparently Captain Carter had] to deploy them for maximum effectiveness [as in CotG].
All higher ranks [i.e. Colonel] must have a Master's Degree or above. Jack's is in Combat Engineering, as a matter of fact [you can only tell by checking out the screencaps from his office], so he knows all kinds of stuff about destroying things.
Anyway, back to your question. Explosives training? Brand new First Lieutenants [Academy grads; AFROTC] won't have any, nor will green airmen [enlisted basic].
The items Jack is likely to cover in his class will not only include C4 and Our Friend The Timing Pencil, but grenades [once you pull the pin, Mister Grenade is not your friend].
Hope this helps...

I can almost see Jack saying that.

Yah, I'm pretty sure Jack is a Bill Murray fan.... ;)
